Connect, Clip & Lock – Comprehensive Warehouse Rack Punching Guide
Expanding existing rack systems and/or buying used rack to increase storage capacity is easier and safer when you know the rack manufacturer. Punch styles are like a fingerprint from the manufacturer — the differences may be subtle, but they can be critical when it comes to making the right connections. The Apex Punching Guide includes over 30 rack manufacturers with detailed illustrations and, in some cases, multiple angles to help you find the fingerprint you’re looking for to build out your pallet rack storage securely.
When you’re looking for quality used racking, remember to call Apex –we constantly update stock in all three of our warehouses, including our Denver, CO location, to conveniently service our Northwest customers. Call for rack component details and quantities.
Mixing and Matching Pallet Rack System Components
Punches on a pallet rack column are the connection points for attaching beams and support arms for cantilever systems. Since most manufacturers have unique punches, the connections are often unique to the system design as well. Ensuring you use the manufacturer’s recommended beams and safety pins is critical to system safety and effectiveness.
For example, roll-formed columns and beams hook together and then are secured with a safety clip. With options like teardrop clips, spring clips, wedges, and j-hooks… you better be sure you’ve got the correct locking device securing your rack beams.
Even within structural pallet racking, bolted connections can vary. So, check the Apex Punching Guide to verify you’ve got it right.
Take a Look:
Here are three roll-formed teardrop-style rack column illustrations. As you can see, the styles are similar, but these are all different system types and therefore require different connection methods.
