Safety from the Ground Up
Struts are a critical component of a pallet rack upright. The heavy-duty horizontal strut is unique in that it is bolted to the lower portion of the upright specifically to protect against twisting if the system is struck. All this rack protection also protects the operator and equipment from injury and damage as well… which’s a win-win.
Heavy-Duty Horizontal Strut
- Valuable visual reference for the forklift operator
- Protects system against twisting if struck
Heavy-duty bottom horizontal struts can also be referred to as rub rails depending on the system manufacturer; however, the function is the same.
In a back-to-back rack system configuration, heavy-duty spacers are used between the rack systems adjacent to the heavy-duty horizontals to work in conjunction and keep the racking from collapse. To make sure your rack system is equipped for safety and productivity, work with expert rack designers like the Apex team. Our rack engineers and system designers can walk you through the options that make the most sense for your current inventory and processing needs and expectations for future growth.

Brace Panels - Critical Strut Support for Pallet Rack Stability
K-brace, X-brace, and Z-brace are the three main vertical brace panel patterns used in rack design. A brace panel represents the pattern of struts connecting the front and rear columns to form a pallet rack upright. The bracing provides critical stability to the rack frame in the cross-aisle direction, and it adds structural support to the individual columns. Where seismic conditions require strut modifications, there are additional design options.
The heavy-duty horizontal strut is an added feature that provides stability and safety to the system. Knowing how and when to use safety accessories is the job of the Apex expert rack system engineers and designers. Our team draws on decades of experience to help our customers meet today’s challenges while planning for tomorrow’s expectations.
