Pallet Shuttle Automation Takes Dense Storage & Multi-Tasking to New Levels

Pallet shuttle storage systems are a semi-automated deep-lane storage solution that can increase throughput while freeing-up warehousing staff to focus on other tasks.  The elements of a pallet shuttle system consist of a shuttle driven by a battery operated or electric motor that runs along specially designed rails installed inside the storage lanes.

pallet-shuttle-systemThe shuttle unit is placed in the lane via forklift to put away and gather pallets as directed from a control device.  Since forklifts do not have to enter the lanes (as in drive-in systems) storage capacity is increased and risk of accidents and damage to rack and product is reduced.

The pallet shuttle can function on average for up to 10 hours per day on a single battery charge and can top speeds of nearly 300 feet per minute within deep-lane structures.  Most can accommodate pallets up to 3,300 lbs.

Most commonly, pallet shuttle systems compete with other deep-lane storage powerhouses such as drive-in, pallet flow and push-back rack for high-density storage opportunities.  The pallet shuttles provide an excellent option to be explored for their reliable, durable, programmable, semi and fully automated bulk storage function.

The cost to purchase and install a pallet shuttle system is similar to pallet flow systems and with the increased versatility of being able to set up the lanes as push-back (FILO) or flow-thru (FIFO) you may actually get more use out of your investment dollar down the road.  Additionally, pallet shuttle systems do not require the additional vertical clearance of pallet flow particularly in deep-lane designs.

Who is a potential customer for a pallet shuttle system?

These systems are ideal for inventory requiring a high volume of pallets per SKU that would otherwise involve intensive loading and unloading activity.

  • High density storage in both depth and height achievable above other deep-lane options
  • Increased productivity of incoming and outgoing goods
  • Accommodates varying sized pallets
  • Space-saving design frees up expensive warehousing space for other operations
  • Reduced operating costs + higher throughput = increased cost-efficiency
  • System is easy to use and maintain
  • Support FILO or FIFO inventory rotation
  • Increase inventory tracking accuracy
  • Built-in safety features ensure correct shuttle operation safeguarding employees, rack and inventory
